Brain Injury Prevention Presenter

The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) is a not-for-profit organization that exists solely to educate the public about how to prevent brain injury and to support individuals and families that have experienced brain injury of any kind.

Think A-Head is a school-based education program designed to promote brain injury awareness and prevention among students in grades 4 - 12.  Created by BIA-MA, Think A-Head has been teaching students to avoid risk-taking behavior and develop healthy living habits for nearly twenty years. Our programs, free of charge, are tailored to the age of the students and to the specific needs of the school and community.  Programs are anywhere from 40 – 70 minutes long and are conducted at various elementary, middle and high schools throughout the state.

BIA-MA has several presenter positions available within the Think A-Head program for locations across the Commonwealth.  Think A-Head is hiring individuals in Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Worcester and Hampden Counties. Presenters can expect to conduct anywhere from 1 to 7 programs each month.  A stipend of $50.00 is provided for each program conducted, $20.00 will be added for each additional program conducted on the same day at the same school.

Responsibilities include:
Conducting a successful program by:
    • Setting up technology to conduct a PowerPoint presentation for a classroom or assembly
    • Clearly presenting the established curriculum while maintaining natural rapport with students
    • Encouraging student participation and discussion
    • Demonstrating confidence and knowledge beyond the curriculum material
    • Supporting brain injury guest speakers, as needed
Requirements:
  • Public speaking or teaching experience
  • Highly organized and responsible
  • Flexible and able to multi-task
  • Passion for injury prevention among youth
  • Reliable transportation
  • Available weekdays between the hours of 9AM – 3PM
  • Able to pass a CORI check
Preferred Experience & Skills:
  • Understanding of brain injury, sports concussions, alcohol and marijuana as related to the teenage brain and/or traffic safety
  • Experience working with brain injury survivors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically PowerPoint
