Stroke and Other Neurovascular Disorders

Stroke and other neurovascular disorders represent a leading cause of acquired brain injury (ABI). This continuing education training will provide an overview of neurovascular disorders affecting the central nervous system and their associated sequelae.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this training, program participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the epidemiology and risk factors (e.g., substance use disorder, medical conditions) associated with stroke and other neurovascular disorders affecting adults and children.
  2. Diagram the vascular supply of the central nervous system and the neurological symptoms associated with vascular lesions of the major cerebral arteries, as well as interventions.
  3. Differentiate stroke subtypes and syndromes (e.g., ischemic vs hemorrhagic).
  4. Describe the common neurobehavioral and neurocognitive sequelae of stroke and other neurovascular syndromes.
  5. Recognize the symptoms and clinical presentation of Multi-Infarct Dementia and other progressive
    neurovascular disorders.
  6. List community-based resources for individuals who have experienced a stroke or who have been diagnosed with other neurovascular disorders.
